Muscogee Rotary Club hosted a Big for a Day Event for children on the waiting list at Big Brothers and Big Sisters program. We conducted a field day and provided games, activities and school supplies for these children as they prepared to go back to school.
Muscogee Rotarians are collecting Easter eggs to donate to Easterseals for an Easter egg hunt for the children and adult participants. Easterseals works with children and adults with developmental disabilities. Their mission is to enable children and adults with disabilities to achieve their maximum independence, and to provide support to the families who love and care for them.
Muscogee Rotary Club volunteered to assist with feeding the homeless and food insecure families for Thanksgiving. Every holiday season, Feeding the Valley provides hot Thanksgiving meals to families with the help of volunteers like Muscogee Rotary.
Members and friends of Muscogee Rotary Club participated in Columbus Waterworks' "Help the Hooch" service day by cleaning trash and debris at Rotary Park. Help the Hooch is the Southeast's Largest Watershed Clean-Up event engaging more than 10,000 volunteers each year. Help the Hooch's mission is to promote environmental stewardship through public education and outreach. To improve aquatic habitat and the quality of our water resources in the Middle Chattahoochee Watershed. The entire Columbus, GA community benefits from a cleaner water source.
Muscogee Rotary Club is collecting toothbrushes and over the counter medications for a Rotary mission's trip to Honduras (trip recently postponed to August). Our member, Judith "LouAnn" Medlock will take the donations to Honduras and provide pharmacy care. Donations will go to support the people of Honduras to help keep them healthy.
Muscogee Rotarians held a pancake pajama breakfast for the families at Hope Harbour, a local battered women's shelter. Rotarians cooked breakfast for residents (pancakes, eggs, sausage and orange juice) and read stories to the children in the home. We also donated books to the home.
Muscogee Rotary Club conducted a 5K event to raise funds to support Mercy Med, a local health care clinic serving underserved populations.
Muscogee Rotary Club volunteered to wrap gifts and inventory gifts for the Open Door Children's Workshop. We also donated toys for the children at Open Door. The mission of Open Door Community House, Inc. is to empower impoverished people in our community to realize their full potential as children of God by creating long-term solutions to poverty.
Muscogee Rotary volunteered to feed the homeless in support of Safehouse Ministries. We also collected men's clothes, underwear, socks and toiletry items and donated them to the Safehouse Ministries. Safehouse Ministries serves homeless, addicted and/or incarcerated men. SafeHouse Ministries seeks to meet the emergency needs of their population and to offer long-term solutions.
Muscogee Rotary conducted a sock and underwear drive for the adults at West Central Regional Hospital and the Homeless Network. Socks and underwear are among the most needed items by participants in these programs. Rotarians then delivered items to these programs.
